APPLE SSD SM0512F configuration - 499gig virtual disk?

Wondering if this is a normal configuration for a APPLE SSD SM0512F found in the late 2013 Macbook pro retinas


Just wondering why “disk1” is virtual. It’s capacity is 499gigs, it’s the last item in the terminal output.

Not sure about the virtual question. It may be that CoreStorage volumes are considered virtual.


But your mobile (MBP Retina) Mac's internal SSD drive is configured as a CoreStorage volume. Apple began doing this to mobile Macs beginning with Yosemite. I don't know why. If you want to revert it back to a physical volume, you can by opening Terminal and typing the following command.


diskutil cs revert disk1


The Logical Volume shows Revertible: Yes (no decryption required)
